Our Beginning

The Omega Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was born from a shared vision of sisterhood and service. On June 15, 2009, a group of dedicated women gathered in West Orange, New Jersey, with the goal of establishing a chapter to serve the communities of Union County. Seventeen members strong, they formed the Cultured Pearls for Progress, united by their commitment to making a meaningful impact.

Our Journey

The path to chartering required patience, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Despite delays over the years, the group remained steadfast in its mission. On November 6, 2015, under the leadership of North Atlantic Regional Director Meredith L. Henderson, the Cultured Pearls for Progress were officially recognized as an Interest Group in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Their hard work and commitment to service ultimately led to their approval as a chapter on October 12, 2017.

Our Impact

Since its inception, Omega Psi Omega has been committed to uplifting Elizabeth and the surrounding communities of eastern Union County. Through partnerships with local organizations, the chapter has supported families, provided food and clothing, mentored youth, assisted seniors, and served individuals in need. These efforts reflect a continued dedication to creating lasting and meaningful change.

Our Legacy

Although the journey to chartering spanned nearly nine years, it stands as a testament to the chapter’s perseverance and strength. Today, Omega Psi Omega continues to build upon a rich foundation of service and sisterhood. With a growing membership and a commitment to excellence, the chapter proudly upholds the legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® while remaining devoted to serving the community and making a difference.
